A day after announcing its 29th recall of the year, General Motors Co. has added one more: plans to fix 218,000 Chevrolet Aveo minicars with a lighting system defect that could cause a fire.

A day after announcing its 29th recall of the year, General Motors Co. has added one more: plans to fix 218,000 Chevrolet Aveo minicars with a lighting system defect that could cause a fire.
The new initiative involves 2004-2008 models equipped with daytime running lights. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the system's control module, which is located in the center console of the instrument panel, could overheat and melt.
Suzuki Motor Corp., which stopped selling cars in the U.S. last year, is separately recalling 184,200 GM-supplied cars with the same problem. Its campaign covers Suzuki Forenza and Reno small cars, also from model years 2004 through 2008.
NHTSA notes that GM hasn't yet decided how or when to remedy the problem. Its Aveo recall brings to 13.8 million the number of recalled GM vehicles some participating in multiple campaigns so far this year.
