The British government plans by the end of 2014 to set up a legislative and regulatory framework to support local development of self-driving car technologies.
The U.K.'s Treasury tells the Financial Times the goal is to "clear the regulatory path" by removing bureaucratic hurdles that would impede the ability of the U.K. to become a global development center for driverless-car systems.
The government also says it will create a 10 million (€12 million) fund to help make a British town or city a testing ground for driverless cars.
