Demand for commercial trucks and buses across Europe surged to 176,300 units last month from 131,600 units in December 2012, according to industry group ACEA.

Demand for commercial trucks and buses across Europe surged to 176,300 units last month from 131,600 units in December 2012, according to industry group ACEA.

Registrations of light trucks rose 18% to 127,800 units. Sales of heavy trucks leaped to 34,200 units from 14,700 units. Bus deliveries climbed by one-third to nearly 4,500 units.

Volume in December expanded dramatically in France (+17% to 40,000), the U.K. (+66% to 32,600), Germany (+27% to 29,500), Italy (+17% to 12,300) and Spain (+53% to 10,100).

For the full year, commercial truck sales in the region advanced 1% to 1.78 million units.
