Toyota Motor Corp. is likely to appoint Vice Chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada to become its chairman in June, The Nikkei reports.

He would succeed Fujio Cho, who would become a senior adviser to the company, according to the Tokyo-based newspaper, which does not cite its sources.

Uchiyamada previously headed Toyota's technology unit and led the company's development of Prius hybrid vehicles, The Nikkei says. He became vice chairman last year.

The newspaper adds that executive vice presidents Masanori Mitsui and Yasuhiko Ichihashi will be named as presidents of Toyota's Daihatsu and Hino subsidiaries, respectively. Those promotions also would take effect in June.
