A Toyota Motor Co. parts affiliate has launched production of engines and transmissions at a new $93 million factory in India. The plant will supply the carmaker in India, Argentina and Thailand.
The facility, owned by Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts Ltd., has annual capacity of 1.1 million engines and 2.4 million transmissions. The new factory is located near two Toyota assembly plants in Bangalore.
Locally made powertrains will boost the domestic content of the Toyota Etios small sedan and hatchback to 90%, according to Toyota Kirloskar. The company is a joint venture between the Japanese automaker and India's Kirloskar Systems Ltd.
