Toyota Motor Corp. intends to increase production in Japan 9% from its previous plan to about 2.5 million vehicles from April through December, The Nikkei reports.

The Tokyo-based newspaper, which doesn't cite its sources, says Toyota expects that a weaker yen will make exporting Japan-made vehicles more profitable.

But The Nikkei adds that the continuing contraction of the country's auto market will hold Toyota's Japan output in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014, below the estimated total of 3.49 million vehicles for the year that ends next week.
