Toyota Motor Corp. has reintroduced its Hilux compact pickup truck in Japan after discontinuing the model there 13 years ago.
The company has been selling the popular truck, which is made in Thailand, for emerging markets. Toyota introduced the Hilux in 1968 and has offered it in 180 markets outside Japan.
The truck, which was last redesigned two years ago, is known for its off-road capabilities and has remained popular among enthusiasts in Japan, The Nikkei says.
The diesel-powered Japanese model will start at 3.3 million yen ($29,700). Toyota predicts domestic sales of 2,000 units per year.
