Toyota Motor Co. is preparing to recall about 744,000 of its 2011-2016 model Sienna minivans in the U.S. to remedy a flaw that could allow its sliding side door to open when the vehicle is moving.
The problem occurs if the power sliding door is impeded as it is being opened, according to the company. Under those conditions, the door mechanism’s motor circuit could overload and open the motor's fuse. If this occurs while the door is unlatched, the door could open later while the vehicle is being driven.
Toyota says it is still developing a repair for the defect. It will alert owners in mid-January to the impending callback.
