Toyota Motor Corp. is preparing to call back 32,000 of its 2016-2017 model Tacoma compact pickup trucks in the U.S. to remedy a manufacturing defect that could cause the engine to stall.
The recall targets trucks equipped with V-6 engines. Toyota says the crankshaft timing rotor was produced with too much anti-corrosion coating. The coating can interfere with a sensor used to control engine timing, which would cause the engine to run rough, misfire or abruptly stall.
Dealers will install an improved sensor in the affected trucks. Toyota says it will begin notifying owners in mid-July.
