Toyota Motor Corp. plans to launch two U.S. recalls in February involving 1.02 million Corolla and Lexus vehicles. The company is recalling another 270,000 of the vehicles in other countries.
The U.S. Corolla recall entails about 752,000 sedans and Matrix hatchbacks built during the 2003-2004 model years. Affected vehicles may be equipped with defective airbag electronic chips that could short circuit and cause the front airbags and/or seatbelt pretensioners to deploy when they shouldn't.
The Lexus campaign in America covers about 270,000 IS luxury sedans made during the 2006-2012 model years. Affected models may have front wiper arms with loose attachment nuts. If the wipers experience a heavy load caused by a buildup of heavy snow, for example one or both wiper arms may stop moving.
