Toyota Motor Corp. will offer its hourly workers in Japan a 2,000-yen ($19.47) boost in monthly base pay half what workers have requested, The Nikkei, says.

Toyota appears likely to accept workers' demand for a bonus payment of 6.8 times monthly wages, according to the newspaper. The amount will surpass last year's 2 million-yen ($20,000) average payout, according to the newspaper.

Workers have demanded more pay because of the company's strong profits expected in the current fiscal year. The company's workforce receive its last increase in base pay six years ago.
