Toyota Motor Corp. says it will invest another $10 billion on U.S. facilities over the next five years, the same pace of spending during the previous five-year period.

The amount includes the company’s new 2.1 million-sq-ft North American headquarters in Plano, Tex., and unspecified expansions at its existing manufacturing plants. The company has 10 factories in eight states.

Regional CEO Jim Lentz tells Automotive News the announcement is unrelated to last week’s criticism by Donald Trump about Toyota’s plan to ship Corolla small cars from Mexico to the U.S. The president-elect has threatened Toyota and General Motors with a "big border tax" on some of their Mexican imports.
