Toyota Motor Corp. aims to build 10.1 million passenger and commercial vehicles the current calendar year, 190,000 more than previously planned, The Nikkei reports.

No carmaker's annual production has ever reached the 10 million-vehicle mark.

The Tokyo-based newspaper cites plans Toyota disclosed to its key suppliers. The company's original goal was to match its 2012 output of 9.91 million vehicles.

Virtually all the production increase will be in Japan, according to The Nikkei. It attributes the boost to higher-than-expected demand for hybrid vehicles and a weaker yen that is boosting overseas sales.

Toyota is expected to announce the new production target when it reports earnings on Friday.
