Toyota Motor Corp. has named Mark Hogan to its board, effective April 1.

Hogan's connection with Toyota goes back to the 1980s, when he was chief administrative officer for New United Motor Manufacturing Inc., the Toyota-General Motors joint venture in California. In that role he worked with Akio Toyoda, who is now Toyota's president.

At GM, Hogan was later was named to head advanced vehicle development. He was recruited to become president of Magna International Inc. in 2004. He stepped down from that post at the end of 2007 to be CEO of Vehicle Production Group LLC, a Michigan-based maker of wheelchair-accessible vehicles.

Toyota hired Hogan as an advisor in 2010 and a year later named him to its North American committee.
