Toyota Motor Corp. along with its Denso Corp. and Toyota Tsusho Corp. affiliates, have invested a combined $15 million into Airbquity Inc., a Seattle-based telematics company.

Airbquity plans to use the funds to expand the development of its connected vehicle software and cloud-based services. This includes accelerating the development and commercialization of Airbiquity’s platform for over-the-air software updates.

The partners also plan to jointly develop new mobility services driven by big data and analytics. The program will build on Airbiquity’s current OTAmatic software and data management platform for connected vehicles.

Demand for such systems is expected to increase as next-generation autonomous, connected and electric vehicles are launched.

Formed in 1997, Airbiquity lists Ford, Nissan, Alpine, Bosch and Continental among its customers.
