CFDT union, which represents 19% of Renault SA's hourly workers in France, has agreed to support a contract the carmaker has reached with two other unions.
The CFDT's backing means Renault has won contract approval from unions representing 64% of the company's workforce in France, thus gaining majority backing. The only holdout is the militant CGT union.
French law requires a contract to garner the support of unions representing at least 30% of workers. The national works council is scheduled to vote on Tuesday.
Analysts say the CFDT's participation makes it almost certain that the pact will be enacted. Renault has said the contract which allows it to shed 7,500 jobs by 2016, freeze wages this year and boost working hours will save it about €500 million per year.
