Chrysler Fiat Automotive NV’s upcoming Dodge Challenger SRT Demon variant will have the largest hood scoop of any production car in history, the carmaker boasts.
Chrysler Fiat Automotive NV’s upcoming Dodge Challenger SRT Demon variant will have the largest hood scoop of any production car in history, the carmaker boasts.
Dodge says the 45-sq-inch scoop, which it dubs the “Air Grabber,” can reduce air inlet temperatures by more than 30° to help cool the car’s supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine. Performance numbers for the engine haven’t been released. But output is expected to be more than the 707 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque produced by a version of the powerplant found in the Dodge Challenger Hellcat.
Special ducting will be added the Demon’s hood to help channel scooped air directly to the engine’s intake, which will sit in a much larger box than the Hellcat’s. The Demon also will benefit from a pair of so-called air catcher headlights that feed more air into the engine. The Hellcat uses only an air catcher on the driver-side headlight.
