Tesla Inc. has hired Gary Clark, a former PR and IT chief at network design and management service provider Juniper Networks Inc., as its chief information officer. The job had been vacant for a year.

Clark succeeds Jay Vijayan, who left the company in January 2016 to help launch an undisclosed startup company. Clark was head of technology services at Barclays Global Investors before joining Juniper in 2011.

Last year Tesla sold 76,200 electric cars, short of its 80,000-unit target. The company hopes to begin selling its high-volume, $35,000 Model 3 electric sedan by year-end. The company is targeting overall sales of 500,000 vehicles in 2018.
