Tesla Model 3’s Only Options for Now: Color and Wheels

Tesla Inc. says it aims to speed the launch of its $35,000 Model 3 electric sedan by limiting initial options to body color and wheel style.

The thousands of would-be buyers who have put down refundable deposits for the car will be able to configure their Model 3s in July. Initial production also will be limited to rear-drive, with all-wheel drive expected to become available in 2018. Tesla has already begun pilot assembly of the Model 3.

The car has been scheduled to formally begin ramping up mass production next month, but skeptical analysts say high-volume output isn’t likely until later this year.
