Tesla Adds Two Independent Board Members

Electric car maker Tesla Inc., responding to criticism that its board is too insular, has added two outsiders to bring its number of directors to nine.

Linda Johnson Rice is the chair and CEO of Ebony Media Holdings and heads its Ebony media operations.

James Murdoch, CEO of 21st Century Fox Inc. and chair of Sky plc, is the son of media mogul Rupert Murdoch. He also launched a foundation devoted to environmental sustainability.

Other members of Tesla’s board include his brother and two investors in the company.
