India’s Tata Motors Ltd. has halted plans for its Tamo sub-brand and Racemo sporty car, Autocar reports.
Tata, which unveiled the Racemo at the Geneva auto show in March, had planned to invest about $40 million to launch Tamo. But falling sales have led Tata to cut non-core products and investments, Autocar says. The British car enthusiast magazine says the carmaker also plans to pull out of next year’s Geneva show.
Tata had described the turbocharged Racemo, which featured gullwing doors and a swoopy design, as its first “aspirational” model. The car was expected to compete against the Mazda MX5 Miata.
