Tata Motors Ltd. says it will use its new "Revotron" engine technology to create a family of 3- and 4-cylinder gasoline engines that power its future passenger vehicles.
The company developed the new engine in partnership with AVL, Bosch, Honeywell, Mahle and INA.
The first such engine is a 1.2-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged unit with intercooling and eight-hole fuel injectors. It's fitted with a single overhead cam, tuned intake and exhaust systems and drive-by-wire technology.
The engine can produce 84 hp and 103 lb-ft of torque, according to the company. It describes the powerplant as lightweight and extremely quiet, thanks in part to a silent-steel oil pan and low-noise auxiliary systems.
