Airbag supplier Takata Corp. ranked at the bottom of a ranking of the reputations of 100 of the most-visible companies in the U.S. compiled by Harris Poll.
The annual poll rates a company’s reputation on 20 attributes as perceived by the public. The top five this year—all rated “excellent”—are Amazon, Wegmans, Publix, Johnson & Johnson and Apple. The bottom five in descending order are Halliburton, Monsanto and Goldman Sachs (all rated “poor”) and Wells Fargo and Takata (rated “critical”).
Among carmakers, the highest-ranked company is Tesla Motors in ninth. The lowest-ranked manufacturer is Volkswagen Group at 91st.
Harris Poll notes that half of this year’s respondents describe the reputations of CEOs and corporate leaders as “bad.” Only 25% rate them “good.” Consumers consider trust, ethics and accountability the most important traits for CEOs.
