Suzuki Motor Corp.'s Maruti Suzuki unit plans to build its fourth factory in India, which would double the company's production in the country to about 3 million vehicles by 2017, Chairman R.C. Bhargava tells The Nikkei.

The Japanese newspaper says Maruti has already bought land for the facility in the western state of Gujarat.

This spring the Indian carmaker plans to begin constructing its third domestic plant, also in Gujarat. The factory is scheduled to open by 2015. Maruti's existing plants are in Manesar and Gurgaon in the northern state of Haryana.
