Italy’s Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (SCG) LLC has been approved to operate as a low-volume manufacturer by the U.S. National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration, which will allow the company to produce as many as 325 of its supercars in the U.S. per year without having to meet some federal regulations.

SCG plans to build six or fewer variants of its SCG003 race car in the U.S. for the 2018-model year and just 10 the following year. The vehicles are expected to cost about $2 million each.

The company, which currently make all its vehicles at a facility in Turin, will assemble its U.S. models in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. SCG says it may eventually add new models and a second U.S. manufacturing facility capable of producing 100 cars per year.

SCG’s lineup in the U.S. initially will be composed of the road-legal Stradale (003S) and Corsa Stradale (003CS), and the track-only Corsa (003C). Built on a carbon-fiber chassis, the cars have a mid-engine layout with double wishbone suspensions, adjustable dampers, carbon-ceramic brakes and aerodynamic enhancements that can generate1,550 lbs of downforce at vehicle speeds as high as 155 mph.

Power comes from a retuned version of BMW AG’s twin-turbo 4.0-lter V-8 engine that makes more than 750 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated with a 7-speed paddle-shift gearbox. The combination can.propel the car from zero to 60 mph in less than 2.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 217 mph.
