Spain Posts Unexpected 11% Gain in Car Sales

Sales of new vehicles jumped to 62,300 vehicles in Spain last month compared with 56,000 units in April 2012, according to trade group ANFAC.

The group attributes the increase in part to government subsidies and two more selling days last month than in April 2012.

Volkswagen reports that April demand in Spain surged 32% for its namesake brand and 47% at its Spanish SEAT marque. Sales climbed 31% at Fiat and 23% at Opel.
