Sirius Radio Plans Telematics Push

Sirius XM Radio Inc. plans to expand its satellite-delivered radio service with such telematics offerings as stolen car tracking, roadside assistance and local weather reports.

Jim Meyer, who took over as CEO on Tuesday, tells Reuters he is mapping a strategy that spans the next 10 years. Sirius also has been talking to carmakers about services they might want to introduce in 2017-2018.

Meyer hints that the company might bolster its capabilities by acquiring one or more providers of automated car services.

Sirius will charge for new services as they are added and distribute them through the same satellites that carry the company's 140 radio channels to more than 24 million subscribers.
