Passenger vehicle sales in Italy rose 8% to and eight-year high of 167,000 units in September, the country’s transport ministry reports.

Sales by Fiat, the market’s most popular brand, advanced 3% to 32,800 units. Second-place Volkswagen climbed 7% to 13,800 units. Deliveries by Renault expanded 6% to 11,000 units, but demand for Ford models dipped 1% to 10,100.

In Spain, an 8% increase to 30,700 units in fleet sales drove a September market expansion of 5% to 83,300 vehicles, according to trade group ANFAC. Best-sellers last month were Renault (+11% to 7,200 vehicles), Peugeot (+3% to 5,900), Volkswagen (-19% to 5,600).
