The companies expect to complete the deal by year-end.
Schrader invented the pneumatic tire valve found on virtually every motorized vehicle worldwide. The company also supplies more than 50% of the expanding market for tire pressure sensing systems. It is expected to generate revenue of $550 million this year.
Schrader is being sold by Chicago-based Madison Dearborn Partners LLC. Sensata was created when Boston-based Bain Capital acquired Texas Instruments' Sensors & Controls business in 2006.
