Scotland has become the latest government to propose banning piston engines.
Scotland’s plan would phase out diesel and gasoline vehicles by 2032. Two months ago England said it intends to ban such engines by 2040, following the same timetable France announced earlier this year.
Some cities, including Athens, Madrid and Mexico City, also have set deadlines to replace fossil-fuel-burning powertrains with electric systems.
