Schaeffler AG has opened a technical center in San Jose, Calif., to develop next-generation technologies and form partnerships with Silicon Valley startups.

The new office will be led by Philip George, who is the company’s director of region innovation. The facility will work with Schaeffler’s new E-Mobility business unit on products for hybrid and electric vehicles as well as emerging systems for connected and autonomous vehicles.

Schaeffler says researchers at the California tech center also will work on Industry 4.0, the Internet of Things, big data and cloud analytics. The facility will support the supplier’s automotive and industrial product businesses.
