China's Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. has begun making right-hand-drive versions of its MG6 midsize sedan in Thailand, Automotive News China reports. The model will go on sale this summer.

The cars are being produced at a joint venture facility operated by SAIC and Charoen Pokphand Group located about 60 miles east of Bangkok. The facility has annual capacity to make 50,000 units.

SAIC says it will sell some of the factory's output in southeast Asia and other right-hand-drive markets. The MG6 also is produced in Longbridge, England.

SAIC acquired the MG brand when it gained ownership of defunct U.K. carmaker MG Rover in 2007.
