General Motors Co.'s board has elected retired Admiral Michael Mullen to become a director on Feb. 1.

General Motors Co.'s board has elected retired Admiral Michael Mullen to become a director on Feb. 1.

His appointment brings the company's board to 15 members.

Mullen chaired the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff in 2007-2011. He was the main military advisor to Presidents George Bush and Barack Obama. He is currently a visiting professor at Princeton University.
