Audi AG has launched a redesign for the next-generation Q7 large crossover vehicle that had been scheduled to go on sale next spring, according to Motor Trend, which does not identify its sources.

Earlier this year Der Spiegel reported that Audi insiders considered the initial redesign "ostentatious, bordering on brutal."

Audi had planned to reveal the redesigned Q7 at the Frankfurt auto show next month. It isn't clear when the revised design will be ready. MT says the redesign and market delay will cost the Volkswagen AG unit some $260 million.

Photos circulating on the Internet reveal results of the quick refresh, which include a new grille and LED taillights and daytime running lights.

The seven-seat Q7 shares its platform with the next-generation VW Touareg, Porsche Cayenne and upcoming Bentley crossovers.
