Fiat SpA's Maserati unit is likely to hike production of its high-performance luxury cars and introduce a production version of the Alferi sports car it unveiled last month at the Geneva auto show, says Bloomberg News, which cites unidentified sources.
CEO Harald Wester tells the news service that Maserati currently is collecting 3,500 orders per month for its cars. The company's lineup includes the €48,000 Ghibli and €74,000 Quattroporte sedans and the €91,000 GranTurismo sports car and its €98,000 convertible variant.
If orders continue at the current pace, Maserati could boost its sales to 42,000 units this year from 15,400 in 2013. To keep up, Bloomberg's sources say, Maserati may add a third shift at its sedan factory in Grugliasco, Italy, where output currently averages 140 cars per day.
Maserati is preparing to expand its offerings with the Levante, an ultra-luxury SUV, to be produced at Fiat's Mirafiori factory in Turin. Bloomberg's sources say the Alferi sports car also would be produced there, sharing its platform with the Levante.
