Renault to Assemble Fluence Sedans in Malaysia

Renault SA and partner Tan Chong Group are preparing to begin local production of an undisclosed number of Fluence midsize hatchbacks in Malaysia.

The companies have not disclosed when production will begin or how many vehicles they expect to make per year.

The cars will be assembled from knockdown kits. Renault introduced its Megane RS midsize three-door hot hatch to the Malaysian market in 2010 and the Clio RS small three-door hatch earlier this year. Renault also markets the Koleos small SUV in Malaysia.

Tan Chong is the exclusive distributor for Nissan and Renault vehicles in Malaysia. The Fluence will be the first Renault model assembled by the company.

Renault intends to expand its dealership network in the country to 25 by 2016.
