The Renault-Nissan alliance says almost all facilities are operating normally today after being disrupted by a global cyber attack on Friday that affected a wide range of enterprises in 150 countries.
The initial assault appears to have targeted older Microsoft Corp. Windows platforms that had not or could not be updated with current security patches. The attack locked computers and demanded a ransom payment in return for regained access to their data. Many companies, including Renault, turned off equipment to prevent the attack from spreading.
Media reports say Friday’s assault interfered with operations at five or more Renault facilities: two in France (Douai and Sandouville), and one each in Pitesti, Romania; Novo Mesto, Slovenia; and Chennai, India.
Nissan Motor Co. says its giant assembly plant in Sunderland, England, is back online after its last operating shift for the day was idled on Friday.
