GMC Reveals Trimmer, Bolder Look for Terrain SUV

General Motors Co. says its 2018 GMC Terrain compact crossover/SUV due this summer will be smaller and lighter than the outgoing model, while ushering in a design language for the truck brand. The truck was unveiled on Sunday ahead of the Detroit auto show.
The Terrain's wheelbase and overall length will shrink by 5.2 inches 3 inches, respectively. The SUV, like its Chevrolet Equinox twin, which debuted in September, will be some 400 lbs lighter than the current model.
The Terrain’s exterior features a sculpted, aerodynamic look with a distinct grille and lights. The upscale Denali trim level adds LED headlamps, 19-inch aluminum wheels and chromed grille, roof rails, door handles and side-mirror caps.
The interior gets more storage in the center console and under the floor. Other updates include aluminum trim, soft-touch materials, fold-flat rear and front passenger seats and standard active noise cancellation.
Buyers will have a choice of three turbocharged 4-cylinder engines: 1.5- and 2.0-liter gasoline mills and a 2.0-liter diesel. All three engines will be available in the Equinox too. A 9-speed automatic transmission, which GM co-developed with Ford Motor Co., is standard and all-wheel drive is optional.
The engines replace a 2.4-liter four-banger and a 3.6-liter V-6, both of which were paired with a 6-speed transmission.
The current Terrain is built at GM’s CAMI Assembly Plant in Ingersoll, Ontario. The new Terrain will be produced at GM's plant in San Luis Potosi in Mexico.
