PSA Group has boosted plans to import gasoline engines from China more than 80% to 100,000 units by May 2018, according to Les Echos. The carmaker has not commented.

The French financial daily says the increase reflects surging demand in Europe for gasoline-powered vehicles as consumers move away from diesels.

Trade group ACEA says diesel’s share of the EU car market has dropped from a peak of 56% in 2011 to 41% so far this year.

In June Dongfeng Motor Co. said its China-based venture with PSA had begun supplying 3-cylinder powerplants to the French company’s European operations. PSA has been retooling some of its engine capacity from diesel to gasoline to reflect the plunging appeal of diesels.
