Porsche AG says in 2016 it will begin building the next-generation Cayenne large SUV entirely in Bratislava, Slovakia. The move will mark the first time Porsche produces entire vehicles outside Germany.

The Bratislava factory currently makes Cayenne bodies, but they are shipped to Leipzig for final vehicle assembly.

Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller says the decision to export Cayenne production came as part of a broader restructuring of manufacturing operations for Volkswagen Group, which acquired the sports car maker in 2012.

Mueller emphasizes that all Porsche vehicles will continue to be designed and engineered in Germany.
