Next year technicians at Porsche AG’s service centers in North America will begin using augmented reality glasses to help make them more productive.

The glasses, called "Tech Live Look," are powered by Akron-based Atheer Inc.’s AiR Enterprise technology. Porsche says the technology will allow technicians to access service bulletins and repair manuals—projected onto the surface of the glasses—as well as hold video conferences with other technicians and support staff.

Mechanics also can use the glasses as a high-resolution, autofocus camera that can show minuscule details, such as the threads on a screw. An attached LED light can illuminate dark areas while a technician is working on a vehicle.

During video conferences, techs can connect with Porsche's Atlanta-based support team to help identify issues and resolve problems. A pilot program showed the glasses cut the time needed to resolve issues by 40%.
