Porsche AG has officially opened three new buildings at its R&D complex in Weissach, Germany.

The €150 million ($200 million) expansion adds a design studio with concept car construction capabilities, a new aero-acoustic wind tunnel and a centralized electronics integration center.

Porsche describes the Weissach complex, which dates to 1971, as the auto industry's only facility that concentrates a company's entire R&D operations in one place. The center employs 4,500 Porsche and 1,500 supplier company representatives.

The new electronics facility brings together electrical and electronics departments that formerly were housed in a dozen buildings on the Wiessach site.
