Porsche Designer Joins Chery

Chery Automobile Co. has recruited Hakan Saracoglu, a Porsche AG exteriors designer, to lead Chery's design center in Shanghai.

The company says Saracoglu became its design director in October. At Porsche, he worked on such models as the 918 Spyder, Boxster and Cayman.

Saracoglu is the latest in a string of European designers lured by Chinese carmakers, Bloomberg News notes. Great Wall Motor hired former Mercedes-Benz designer Andreas Deufel in 2011. Volvo Cars design chief Peter Horbury went to Zhejiang Geely late that year. Former Ferrari designer Leonardo Fioravanti joined Beijing Automotive last April.
