The Australian Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries predicts full-year sales, buoyed by strong demand for pickup trucks and SUV/crossovers, will surpass last year’s 1.16 million-unit total.
As in the U.S., strong demand for trucks is helping to offset slumping car sales. AFCAI says November deliveries of SUVs rose 4%, but car sales slid 5%. The market’s two best-selling models are the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger pickups.
Toyota led the Australian market last month with a 1.84% share, followed by Mazda at 9.9%, Hyundai at 8.1%, General Motors (Holden) at 7.8% and Ford at 6.9%, according to the trade group.
