PSA Peugeot Citroen says it will increase output of its Peugeot 2008 small SUV/crossover from about 690 to 860 units per day because of strong demand for the model.

PSA tells Bloomberg News it's the fifth time it has increased production of the vehicle since its introduction 12 months ago. The company has received 120,000 orders for the 2008, which is assembled in Mulhouse, France.

Two weeks ago PSA announced it would add a third shift at its factory in Sochaux to increase production of its just-introduced Peugeot 308 car. The five-door hatch and wagon, which will launch in June, was named Europe's Car of the Year last month at the Geneva auto show.
