Two of the Opel factories being sold by General Motors Co. to PSA Group will supply upcoming Buick-branded models for sale in the U.S.
Opel confirms it will produce a Buick version of the Opel Mokka X small crossover at its plant in Eisenach in 2019. The company’s factory in Russelsheim will supply Buick with a large SUV beginning in 2020.
Opel says the two factories also will export “sister products for another GM brand.” The company provided no further details.
Structurally, the company intends to convert Opel AG into Opel GmbH, which will then merge into Adam Opel GmbH. As a result, Opel and its Vauxhall operations in the U.K. will be consolidated under a single company structure under PSA ownership. The French carmaker has pledged to honor existing labor agreements with GM, including pension plans.
