PSA Group’s newly acquired Opel unit says it will switch to PSA chassis for nine models by 2020 and all remaining models by 2024.

PSA finalized the purchase of Opel and its Vauxhall brand from General Motors Co. in August. The French company previously said it would not complete the cost-cutting transition in platforms until 2027.

Last month PSA CEO Carlos Tavares declared that his company’s factories are significantly more efficient than Opel’s plants in Germany. Opel, he warned, must become “more efficient, everywhere, and in all functions.”

Opel reiterates that the merger aims to reduce its costs €1.7 billion ($2 billion) by 2026, with two-thirds of the savings achieved by 2021.
