General Motors Co.'s Opel unit plans to spend €60 million ($77 million) to install new production lines at its engine plant in Szentgotthard, Hungary.
The company aims to increase annual capacity there by 50,000 engines to a total of 650,000. The factory is scheduled to begin making Opel s new 1.6-liter aluminum-block gasoline engines next spring and later add that engine family's diesel variant.
Opel expects to add about 100 employees to the Szentgotthard facility's current workforce of 900.
The new spending is in addition to the €130 million investment Opel announced in February to boost the plant's annual capacity to 600,000 units from 500,000.
