Opel PR Veteran to Head Infiniti Communications

Nissan Motor Co.'s Infiniti brand has hired Stefan Weinmann, a long-time spokesman for General Motors Co.'s Opel unit, as global communications chief.

Weinmann will start in the newly created post on April 1. He will be based at Infiniti's new world headquarters in Hong Kong and report to Infiniti President Johan de Nysschen.

In 22 years at Opel and GM, Weinmann's jobs included head of corporate affairs and, most recently, general director of internal and alliance communications.

In his new job, Weinmann will help Infiniti promote its image worldwide as part of an ambitious plan to more than triple the brand's sales to 500,000 vehicles by 2016 and capture 10% of the global luxury market. The unit's effort includes introducing the marque in Japan and starting production in China next year.
