General Motors Co.’s Opel unit has named its new small SUV/crossover the Grandland X. The highly stylized vehicle will launch in 2017.
The midsize model will join the Crossland X, a B-segment mini-SUV that will replace the Meriva minivan next year. Both models were developed under Opel’s alliance with PSA Group. Opel also offers the Mokka X mini-SUV.
The company plans a fourth model in the X series—a large SUV—in about two years. It will ride on the same platform that will carry next year’s redesigned Insignia Grand Sport sedan. The X series vehicles are among 29 new models Opel expects to introduce between now and 2020.
GM will produce the Crossland X at its plant in Zaragoza, Spain, and the Grandland X will be supplied by PSA’s factory in Sochaux, France, according to Automotive News Europe.
